Meetup #169

New faces this week spanned a drummer, a 19-year-old fresh off an internship writing her first short, an actress-therapist, a photographer turned documentary maker, a lighting designer who also does immersive audio, and a Berlinale visitor who’s a grant officer by day and a filmmaker by night. Honestly, we love when the room is this mixed.

🎤 Pitches

A 360-screen, 360-sound immersive project tracing music history from prehistoric rhythm to modern electronic sound (yes, really, think Fantasia scale). A dark rom-com about a bad run of Berlin dates from a filmmaker whose last short made it into a Babylon festival slot. And a black-and-white silent comedy about a chaos-prone waiter who drops a tray of 11 beers at a memorial event. We’re still thinking about that one.

📽 Screenings

A family drama shot in Karlsruhe, including a table-tennis scene that apparently took forever to get right.

📅 Also announced: the Kino-Loop screening network (80 groups internationally, monthly no-competition screenings plus Q&A), a filmmakers’ party, and a separate intimacy coaching session for anyone shooting intimate scenes this year.
