Meet up #193

Another Sunday, another room full of people with films in their heads and plans to get them onto a screen.

This week brought psychological horror, altered memories, fight scenes, a feature film screening, and even a VHS recreation of American Beauty. So, quite a mix.

🎤 Pitches

One of the projects that caught our attention was The Silhouette, an 8-minute psychological horror short. A woman goes hiking in a forest with her dog, but things take a very strange turn when the dog disappears and a supernatural silhouette enters the story.

The project takes inspiration from films like It Follows, The Witch and The Ritual. Shooting is planned for 2–3 days in late October or early November, and the team is currently looking for a lead actress, someone comfortable working with a dog, plus a 1st AD, 1st AC, gaffer and sound recordist. Post-production help is also needed, including a sound designer and composer.

Another project we heard about was The Merge, a 30-minute sci-fi short about altered memories and a company whose technology has consequences that could change the world. The world-building has some touches of The Matrix, and the project is currently looking for a producer to help with fundraising and production management.

There was also A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing, which is heading into a fight scene after a chase on September 26. The team is looking for a makeup artist for some basic effects, including a scratched, bloody face and a bloody thumb.

And then, because apparently we needed one more thing to make the evening interesting, we watched a recreation of an American Beauty scene shot on a VHS camcorder.
