Meet Up #195
Another Sunday, another room full of people with films to make, scripts to finish and new ideas to throw into the mix.
This week we had a music video about depression, a comedy where the German government decides to abolish time, new filmmakers looking for their way into the community, and a few projects getting very close to the finish line.
🎤 Pitches
One project came from a Berlin-based nu metal band working on a music video for their song DEVIL. In the story, the devil represents depression, drawing characters towards darker places until the protagonist finally breaks free and burns the devil in the end.
The team already has a location near Straußberg, including a meadow, river and boat, and wants to play with fog, red lights and a band silhouette in front of a fire.
They’re looking for a director, co-director, DOP, gaffer, producer and set designer, as well as editing and VFX support. Shooting is planned for one or two days in October or November.
Then there was a very different kind of problem: what if the German government simply abolished time because it couldn't solve its bureaucratic problems?
That’s the setup for a 3-minute comedy being developed for a DFFB application. A punctuality-obsessed man and his stoner friend head off on a road trip in a world where time no longer exists.
The team is looking for an actress and a German-speaking performer for small roles, plus a DOP, sound recordist and VFX artist. One planned shot involves a train arrival screen announcing that trains will arrive “at some point.”
📽 Screenings
We also got a preview of a new short film that’s now heading into sound mixing and colour grading before its release.
And we heard about an unusual audio project: a novel about love and marriage problems has been turned into an 11-hour episodic podcast, with new episodes coming out every Wednesday. There’s also a behind-the-scenes series about the writing process.
