Meet Up #196

Another Sunday, another room full of people making films, finding collaborators and bringing all kinds of stories into the room.

This week we had a horror film involving a very unfortunate dog, a relationship drama set in a hotel full of challenges, and short films ranging from anxiety to comedy. We also met people working across everything from documentaries and photography to music and tech.

🎤 Pitches

First up, a horror short about a hiker in a forest whose dog falls under the control of a mysterious shadow. The shoot is planned for October 27, 28 and 30 near Potsdam Süd, and the team is looking for a dog wrangler to look after the canine actor between takes, including feeding and getting the dog home safely.

The music video for DEVIL, by a Berlin-based nu metal band, is also moving forward. Most of the team is already in place, but they’re still looking for a gaffer, art design and makeup support, plus a tall actor to play the devil. Shooting is planned for October 31 and November 1 near Straußberg.

We also heard about The Penumbra Hotel, a feature film built around a hotel where every room is designed to test a couple’s relationship. Think social games, uncomfortable situations and questions about the roles we play with each other.

The filmmaker wants to shoot the opening scene as a standalone 10-minute short first. It follows a couple meeting in a restaurant, where the man struggles with the bossy business persona his partner brings into their relationship. The one-day shoot is planned for February or March 2027, and the project is looking for cast and crew.

📽 Screenings

We watched a varied selection this Sunday: a puppet-theatre short about anxiety, a comedy about not drinking with strangers shot on a phone, another short comedy, a documentary about an Italian street singer, and an acting showreel.

Different formats, different stories, and a good reminder that you don't need a big setup to start making something.
